Audio
While at college, I took two radio production classes. In these classes, I learned to produce a variety of audio-based messages such as news reports, commercials, podcasts, public service announcements, and public affairs programs. I worked with programs such as Adobe Audition and Audacity. The equipment I primarily used is a Rødecaster Pro mixer and a Heil PR40 and/or a Shure SM7B.
One of my projects, the first episode of Through the Lens: The History of Photography, I submitted to the Broadcast Education Association’s (BEA) Festival of Media Arts competition in December of 2022. Out of 1,650 submissions from all across the world, 299 people won and I won an Award of Excellence for my podcast.
BEA is an international academic organization dedicated to preparing college students to enter the radio & TV sectors. They work with organizations all across the industry, helping effect regulations, economics, news, developments, and practices.
Below is a collection of what I have done with a brief description of the project.
Through The Lens: The History Of Photography (Ep. 1)
For this project, we were instructed to create a 7 to 9-minute podcast about a topic of our choice. I chose my topic on the history of photography. I chose this as I think of myself as a history buff and photography is also an avid passion of mine. After conducting research and assembling a podcast planner, Through The Lens: The History of Photography was born. In this episode, I discuss the earliest history of photography with the Camera Obscura and end it by discussing the experiments of Joseph-Nicéphore Niépce, the father of Photography.
In December 2022, I submitted my podcast to the Broadcast Education Association’s (BEA) Festival of Media Arts competition of 2022-2023. The Festival of Media Arts is an international competition where students and faculty members of universities can compete to see who produced the best audio/video. The competition is split into a lot of subcategories for audio and video with the specialty program category being one of the biggest for the audio section. Out of 1,650 entries, 299 people won. I won an Award of Excellence for my podcast along with 7 other entries.
Through The Lens: The History Of Photography (Ep. 2)
For this project, we were instructed to create a 7 to 9-minute podcast about a topic of our choice. I chose to do another episode for Through the Lens: The History of Photography. This episode covers three forms of photography from the early to late 19th centery. What I learned from the previous episode was to script out what to say as I got lost on what I was saying and went into tangents.
Through The Lens: The History Of Photography (Ep. 3)
PSA for The Coalition for a Safe and Drug-Free Swain County
For this project, I created a PSA with The Coalition for a Safe and Drug-Free Swain County in Western North Carolina to create a PSA for alcohol safety. I created two versions, a 30-second and a 60-second so that there could be a variety when played on the radio. This type of PSA is evergreen, meaning that it can be played all year round without a specific kill date.
Note: This PSA aired on 95.3 WWCU since the Spring of 2023
PSA for Mountain Projects
In this project, we were instructed to get with a local non-profit organization and create a 60-second PSA for them. I teamed up with Mountain Projects, a non-profit dedicated to improving the social, economic, educational, health, emotional, and environment of families in both the Haywood and Jackson Counties of Western North Carolina. When I teamed up with them, they wanted me to create a PSA about alcohol prevention and safety. They sent me some scripts they used in the past and I managed to combine them to create a 60-second PSA.
Note: This commercial did air on 95.3 WWCU in the Fall of 2022
Music Concert Promotional Commercial
In this project, we were instructed with creating a promotional commercial for a Concert being held at Daytona International Speedway. We had to create the music bed using the band we got to choose. I choose The Backseat Lovers. We also had to incorporate a second voice into our commercial and I included my friend Phillip as my second voice.
Note: This commercial was NOT aired as it was primarily a class project so we could practice recording and editing audio.
